Miyata Century 1990 - "In Reunion"

Akhirnya kedua varian Miyata Century bisa saling berdampingan. Ada rasa kebanggan juga bisa memiliki sepasang limited edition dari Miyata keluaran 1990 ini.

Hari ini ban, rim, hub dan cassette si Road bike sudah diganti supaya yang original bisa disimpan. Karena original bawaan aslinya adalah tipe ban yang tidak menggunakan ban dalam, dan sekarang ini jenis ban ini sudah termasuk langka dan susah dicari gantinya jika rusak. Jadi supaya si owner bisa memakai-nya untuk "mejeng" di hari Minggu di seputaran Sudirman, maka diputuskan untuk menukar rim dan ban yang sebelumnya terpasang di GIANT Defi 2 ke si Road bike...dan GIANT Defi 2 dibelikan rim, hub dan ban baru.
Today the tires, rims, hubs and cassttes of the Roady have been replaced so the original parts can be stored safely in the closet. We believe the original tyres are 'tubeless' and it's hard to find, nowadays. To enable the owner showing off this beauty on every Sunday in Sudirman street, so it's decided to replace the rims and tyres which were previously attached on the GIANT Defy 2...while the 'GIANT' got the new Mavics and Michellins



Sekarang dua-duanya bisa saling jejeran kalau sedang "show-off" di Sudirman, yang pasti sepeda-sepeda ini akan menarik perhatian orang-orang karena Gold platted lugs-nya yang terlihat mewah dan unik.
Yang pasti siap-siap ditawar orang aja nanti di jalan, apalagi sewaktu tadi mengganti rim dan ban di ruko BSD, yang jual cerita... "Pak, yang punya sebelumnya nyesel...katanya dia mau ngambil lagi sepeda-nya PLUS ditambah 5 juta...."
Walahhh...yang pasti owner yang sekarang nggak mungkin nge-lepas sepeda2 ini.....biar ditawar 1 M pun :D
Now they both can show-off in pair at Sudirman street, and for sure the unique Glod platted lugs will attract other people on site.....and prepared to be offered because today when we went to the bike shop, the seller said..."Mister, the previous owner was absolutely feel sorry that he sold this bike to you..he is ready to buyback this bike with addtional 5 million rups...". Oops...for sure the new owner will never let this baby go...even for 1 billion rups.

MIYATA Century 1990 - Road Bike

Salah satu koleksi terbaru sepeda balap yang baru saja kemarin tiba di rumah Pejaten, "Miyata Century 1990", Limited Edition yang dirilis oleh Miyata, pabrikan sepeda Jepang yang berdiri dari tahun 1890. Tipe ini adalah sodara dari Miyata Century MTB yang sudah saya ceritakan di posting sebelumnya.

One of the newest road bike collection arrived yesterday in Pejaten (my father's house, Jakarta) was the "Miyata Century 1990", the Limited Edition released by Miyata, a Japan bicycle manufacturer established in 1890. This type is the brother of the Miyata Century - Mountain Bike which I've already described in my other posting.

Saya seorang amatir dalam dunia persepedaan tetapi sudah sering melihat sepeda-sepeda keluaran pabrikan ternama seperti Specialized, TREK, GIANT, termasuk POLYGON Hellios...(cinta produk nasional juga dong..) yang harganya setinggi langit, bahkan ada yang sampai lebih dari Rp. 100 juta!!! Tetapi begitu saya lihat Miyata Century 1990 ini, saya yang tadinya biasa-biasa aja terhadap desain atau model sepeda, kontan terkagum-kagum setelah melihat sepeda ini. Cantik tenan dan vintage banget...

I'm an amateur in cycling world but I've seen so many well known bicycle brand like Specialized, TREK, GIANT, including PLYGON Hellios (Indonesian brand) which are so much expensive, even more than 100 million Rups!!! (>US$ 10,000). And they never make my heart falls. But when I saw this Miyata Century 1990, I'm so amazed with the beauty of this bike. This vintage bike is so nice.

Menurut informasi, di Indonesia hanya ada 2 unit Miyata Century yang tipe Road Bike.

1 unit berada di Cirebon, dan 1 unit ada di rumah Pejaten .....:)

We're informed that there are only 2 units of this Miyata Century Road Bike available in Indonesia. One unit is in Cirebon (West Java), and one unit is in Pejaten...LOL

Kondisi sewaktu sepeda ini didapat bisa dibilang 100% original...(yah 99.5% lah). Belum ada komponen yang diganti dan kondisinya masih sangat baik untuk ukuran sepeda yang berumur 20 tahun. Hanya saddle-nya saja yang berbeda dengan katalog asli Miyata 1990, dimana dalam katalog saddle-nya menggunakan "Brooks pro"...sedangkan yang ini menggunakan "Selle Italia Turbo - Gold Special Edition", saddle yang seharusnya merupakan pasangan Miyata Century - MTB, sodaranya. Sedangkan untuk groupset-nya menggunakan jajaran seri tertinggi Shimano pada saati itu, Dura-Ace.

I can say that this bike is still in 100% condition (well ...99.5%). None of the components were replaced and the condition are all in good shape for the 20 years old bike. Only the saddle, which should be "Brooks Pro" instead of "Selle Italia Turbo - Gold Special Edition" which should be the original saddle of the MTB version. And for the groupset, it is equipped by the highest level of Shimmano's... Dura-Ace.

Saya sudah pernah searching di Google untuk mencari artikel ataupun foto-foto mengenai Miyata Century - Road Bike namun tidak berhasil. Mungkin artikel ini menjadi artikel pertama yang menulis tentang tipe sepeda ini sekaligus foto-fotonya.

I've been Googling for some articles or pictures of this Miyata Century Road Bike, but I couldn't find any. So perhaps this article is the first article who writes about this bike including the pictures.

MIYATA Century 1990 - MTB

Awalnya hanya sekedar mengikuti hobby baru orang tua yaitu bersepeda. Lama kelamaan virusnya tidak terbendung lagi sehingga saya pun ketularan menjadi penggemar sepeda. Selain menjadi gemar menggenjot, beliau juga gemar "mengkoleksi"...salah satunya sepeda antik keluaran Miyata dengan kode produksi MIYATA Century.

At first it's just following my father new hobby which is biking. But then the influence got stronger and now I'm also like biking as well. Beside cycling, he also like collecting...and one of the the collection is the MIYATA Century.



Miyata Century ini dirilis pada tahun 1990 dalam rangka merayakan 100 tahun berdirinya MIYATA, salah satu pabrikan sepeda Jepang yang telah berdiri sejak tahun 1890. Tipe ini mengusung groupset dari jajaran Shimano yang tertinggi pada masa itu, yaitu Deore XT. (mudah-mudahan definisi saya benar...maklum masih amatir dalam hal persepedaan)

Miyata Century is released in 1990 to commemorate the 100 years of MIYATA, one of the Japan bicycle manufacturer which was established in 1890. This type is equipped with the highest type of Shimmano groupset at the time, the Deore XT. (Hopefully my statement is right, since I'm new in the cycling world)

Sayangnya sewaktu mendapatkan sepeda ini kondisinya tidak 100% original (saddle, rim dan tyre sudah diganti...label "Century" pada frame sudah hilang). Namun demikian secara umum kondisi frame dan groupset-nya masih sangat prima dan cukup OK untuk ukuran sepeda yang sudah berusia 20 tahun yang sering digunakan oleh pemilik sebelumnya. Terlebih frame-nya terbuat dari bahan karbon yang kuat dan ringan.

Unfortunately, when we got this bike it was not 100% oringinal (saddle, rims and tyres were replaced...and the "Century" label on the frame was missing). But anyway, in general the frame and groupset condition are in a good shape, especially for the 20 years old bike which was oftenly used by the previous owner. Moreover, the frame was a carbon fiber...strong and light.
